2018 Eastern psychological association conference

During the 2018 Eastern Psychological Association conference, EYE founder, Diane, co-presented on a research study she assisted with led by Dr. Charla McKenzie, a professor from Bowie State University.  The "Ethnic Identity and Academic Achievement" research explored the relationship between academic achievement and ethnic identity for black students at a predominantly Black university.  Results from the study suggested that high ethnic identity commitment appears to be a protective factor regarding academic self-esteem and achievement in black youth, regardless of the ethnic composition of the environment in which they attend college. Implications from this study give credit to the importance of ethnic identity awareness and knowledge for intrapersonal development.
